Olympics 2012 : Toilet Diving at Home

For this project we came up with a few ideas to play on how we could bring the Olympic games into our homes. I suggested we go back to my flat and stage an Olympic event (Toilet Bath diving and holding your breath) in my bathroom. I think they turned out perfectly and definately have an edge over the digital photos we took on my Nikon SLR, with abit more of a grainy, voyeuristic feel and the colour/lighting is all so homely. Were thinking our next move will be to create a series of posters and maybe put them together into a big book or olympic style brochure. Photos were shot using a Lomo FishEye lens with 200 35mm colour film by the lovely Adrian Curcher and Butch lesbian type Alice Dobie.

French based design Julie Michel has got some interesting work. Pictured is her project My Way #3, a great fold out map and journal that allows the user to document a more personal experience. I thought this would be a really easy way to show what I'd been collecting for the ongoing pocket archive project as it progresses. My gloves collection has recently branched into hats, scarfs and other items of clothing!

De-fragmented photography, June 2009

Taking a mundane architecture photograph then by breaking down and subtracting abstract shapes I created an exciting montage of colour vs. white space. I wanted to deal with the first impression as a judgement of whats inside/beyond the original image and question the viewers perception of this dull photo.It was also inspired by Richard Galpins work and exhibition Elevation at The Hales Gallery, London.

Experimenting with photography and a well known British phrase to question our initial perception of objects/situations. I believe its a natural human response, when filtering images, we will often simply disregard an image/object because of pre-conceived beliefs. I wanted to glorify the mundane and give the binned images a last chance to become something of beauty/desire.

First Impressions: A typographic mind-map of thinking, June 2009

As part of my art foundation final project exhibition I explored the subject of First Impressions and one of the pieces I displayed was a bold, bright and busy response in the form of this typographic poster design- I took inspiration from the human brain and town maps to communicate some very colloquial language we might use to describe our first impressions when meeting a new person. I took inspiration from the book Manwatching: A Field Guide to Human Behaviour by Desmond Morris and the dominating online social networking culture (Facebook) to translate how today we communicate and express ourselves.

Favourite part my final project...having the words 'F*ck', 'Bell End' and 'Quim' in my exhibition and being able to claim that its genuine work.

'Fake Book', 2009

A comedy response, thrown together last minute but exhibited to vent some frustration with how there are so many things wrong with Facebook. I found out about networking as a way to connect with people, but instead I think social networking online has the opposite effects, giving people the opportunity to create superficial personalities and breaking down the crucial element of human interaction within communicating.
